APRIL 11th UPDATE: Anti Safe Haven DEMONSTRATION
On April 11th "The Children First Foundation: The Official Sponsor of the 'Choose Life' license plates in NY, NJ and CT" is holding their annual fund-raiser gala ($250pp) benefit concert at Avery Fisher hall, Lincoln Center, 65th and Columbus Ave., NYC at 6:30pm
Those of us who are able will be there to peacefully hand out educational literature as guests enter the event.
More about the event, including complete invitation, can be found at: http://www.fund-adoption.org/
Directions to the location: http://www.lincolncenter.org/load_screen.asp?screen=visitorinfo_hallinfo_afh
We will be meeting up at 6pm outside Avery Fisher Hall, Columbus and 65th.
EVEN IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND IN PERSON, YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THIS OPPORTUNITY TO EDUCATE THOSE WHO MISGUIDEDLY BELIEVE THAT SAFE HAVENS SAVE LIVES!!!
Contributions have been pouring in to purchase an ad in the Journal/Program for event-goers!!
A full page ad - 5.5 x 8.5 = $400
Half page (the minimum for our message) $200
Quarter page - about bus card size $100
The wording of the ad is a combined effort and a work in progress, but SO FAR it will look something like this:
Safe haven legislation, while well intentioned, has been shown to cause more harm than intended to prevent, and are contrary to ethical public policy about reproductive freedom the pro-life community has promoted for years. Such programs:
* allow anyone to abandon a baby with or without the consent or knowledge of the mother.
* do not provide waiting periods, counseling or option and resources referrals to families in crisis.
* do not require the same parental notification pro-lifers have promoted for years.
* encourage young women to forgo prenatal care resulting in dramatically higher infant and maternal mortality rates.
* discourage the creation of families and ignore the rights of
* abandonments increasingly appear to be driven by economics
post welfare reform. (*?)
This message sponsored by: Parents and Professions for Family Preservation and Protection: A concerned consortium of concerned citizens, professionals, organizations, adoptees and mothers against legalized baby abandonment.
I am planning to purchase the URL PPFFPP.org onto which will be posted a wealth of anti-safe haven facts and quotes can be uploaded- much more than we could ever put in an ad or handout.
YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE AD AND/OR WEBSITE WILL BE MONEY THAT COULD SAVE THE LIFE OF A CHILD AND MOTHER!
Contributions can be paid online at PayPal.com. Use the "Send Money" tab and designate any amount to be sent to email@AdvocatePublications.com - mark it for SH ad or SH webpage.
HOWEVER - it would be very helpful to reply to this post within 24 hours to let me know how much to expect in order to plan ad size which must be done within 24 hours.
CHECK COMMENTS FOR UPDATES!!
After sleeping on this I think we need to keep this as short and sweet as possible or it will NOT get accepted.
What they are looking for is the type of "ads"/sponsorship that appear in the back of HS yearbooks: "Congrats Class of '06...Joes Pizza"
This is the FULL text of what was sent to me:
"We are a loosely formed coalition with interests in adoption and Safe Havens– details to follow...
"We are in the process of figuring out our space needs and WILL have copy to you by this time tomorrow. Are all three size ads still available?
"Thank you for your continued help."
THEREFORE - I suggest we simply go with the quarter page and just say the following:
We stand with you in supporting families and expectant mothers in crisis who need: education; objective ethical counseling; information on all resources, referral agencies and options; prenatal and delivery care; job training, housing, and day care assistance.
Parents and Professionals for family Preservation and Protection
OR, simply the tag line and nothing more.
Unless I hear to the contrary within HOURS this is what I will do. Any funds donated over and above the $100 cost of the ad will go to putting up a web page that has ALL the details we spoke of earlier, or refunded as per the donors choice.
FamiyPreservation.org is taken! The web space I am speaking of will have information on Safe Havens ONLY for now. At a later date, further uses of the site can be mutually discussed. Possibly links to sites opposed to safe havens and pro-family preservation, links to books that fit the same goal...
I would also see it fit to campaign against the Texas legislation to pay $500 to expectant mothers to relinquish, using this URL which would have a mission statement that clearly outlines what family preservation means to US. All of this is in the future -- right now the ad wording and size is essential.
I kept it VERY SHORT and sweet (innocuous):
In support of families and expectant mothers and their babies in crisis.
Parents & Professionals for Family Preservation & Protection www.PPFFPP.org
The web page will be up at midnight on the 11th, containing lots of info about what is wrong with Safe Havens and all the orgs who oppose them!
Not putting up until then to keep them in the dark as to who we are and what we are about - so they print the ad and distribute it to all attending this event!
ALL SUPPORT WELCOMED to pay for the ad and keep the web page up!!
After accepting the ad, but having not yet sent info on paying...he writes:
"as we go forward i would love to hear more about your organization and possibly how we can work together."
I replied: "Yes, we would of course be most appreciative of your support as well. We are newly forming and working to get our web page up and running asap with our missions and goals still a work in progress. I will keep you apprised so you can read it as soon as it is fit for publication!"
